Dr. Ellis Edmunds
Licensed Clinical Psychologist, PSY 27058
My name is Ellis Edmunds and I am a licensed psychologist in California. I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults as well as mindfulness training for groups.
I specialize in Mindfulness – the ability to be fully present and let go of unhelpful thoughts and emotions that get in the way of living the life you want. I currently have offices in Oakland and San Francisco.
I earned my Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.) from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) in San Francisco in 2013. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology in 2009.
I have worked in community mental health, college counseling, and various Bay Area schools helping people from a variety of backgrounds improve their mental health and live more fulfilling lives. I completed my post-doctoral internship at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga.
I provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults in my offices in Oakland and San Francisco. My style is collaborative, warm, and accepting. I strive to make you feel comfortable and safe. Together we will explore what brings you to therapy and the goals that you would like to set for yourself. I believe that no matter your life circumstance, there is a way to cultivate compassion and understanding to help relieve your suffering.
In more technical terms, I have training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy and draw from these approaches in my work. Most prominently, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness in my work with clients. I help people become more mindful of their thoughts, emotions, body, and actions and live a life that is based on values that are deeply important and meaningful.
My study of mindfulness began as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley. I have been practicing mindfulness meditation for over 8 years. I regularly attend yoga and meditation classes. I also wrote my dissertation on teaching mindfulness to adolescents. I believe mindfulness is a powerful tool for healing that can be used to help individuals and groups.
